The Basal-IQ feature helps reduce the frequency and duration of low-glucose events by predicting glucose levels 30 minutes ahead and suspending insulin if they are expected to drop below 80 mg/dL, or when the actual, real-time sensor glucose value is less than 70 mg/dL. Insulin resumes once sensor glucose begins to rise. Insulin may be suspended for a minimum of five minutes and a maximum of two hours within a 2.5-hour rolling window.
Will insulin resume if glucose moves up but is still below 70 mg/dL?
Yes. Insulin will resume when glucose begins to rise if the algorithm believes glucose has reached the nadir (or lowest point), even if it is still below 70 mg/dL. If, with the next CGM reading five minutes later, the algorithm predicts glucose is trending down, insulin will be suspended again.
